Yet another feature length episode of Chaplinesque silent silliness from Rowan Atkinson's top-earning character. Mr Bean has won a church fete raffle's top prize, consisting of a trip to France. A hopeful and starry-eyed Bean boards the Eurostar and hits 'Gay Paree' like a ton of rubble. The language barrier predictably causes our hero no end of grief until he meets Emil, a Russian director on his way to judge at Cannes. Emil agrees to film Bean climbing aboard his train to the south and his dream vacation - a move that causes Emil to miss the train himself. Bean comforts Stephan, Emil's son, who DID make it aboard, by trying to entertain him. Little does Bean know he's accompanying a child that's been reported kidnapped and that he himself fits the description of the prime suspect! Bean eventually must go to Cannes himself to try and sort out the mess but he's only gone and left his wallet and travel documents behind! The trip to Cannes provides more opportunity for confusion as Bean ends up in the middle of a production being shot by the bigheaded director Carson Clay. At Cannes, after hitching a ride with the lovely Sabine - an actress in the film - Bean and Stephan end up, well, 'brightening up' the premiere of Clay's film. It?s taken a long time for Rowan Atkinson to bring us Mr Bean?s Holiday, the sequel to the substantial hit of 1997. But in that time, he?s lost none of what made the character so huge in the first place, delivering an effective comedy that?s again managed to ignite box offices right across the world. The set-up for Mr Bean?s Holiday is in the title: the hapless title character wins a holiday to France, meaning this time it?s the French Riviera that?s the backdrop for the slapstick humour that has defined the series. And so Mr Bean finds himself in a series of increasingly unlikely situations, causing all manner of havoc in the process. While unlikely to convert anyone who isn?t already a fan, Mr Bean?s Holiday is nonetheless a comedy that delivers reliable laughs very much in the spirit of what has gone before. Atkinson continues to inhabit the character with great skill, and it?s--rightly--his work here that brings the lion?s share of the laughs. By most accounts, Mr Bean?s Holiday is the swansong for a character that?s manage to delight audiences worldwide for over a quarter of a century. And while the film is, truthfully, no classic, at its peak it?s a hoot, and offers gentle, enjoyable family entertainment. --Jon Foster Synopsis Rowan Atkinson ( Blackadder Goes Forth) reprises his role as accident-prone Mr Bean in this sequel to Bean - The Ultimate Disaster Movie, set in the French Riviera. Eager for a break from the drab rain of London, Bean wins a holiday and a camcorder in a competition and heads off for the south of France, but soon enough his dream holiday has become just another collection of unfortunate and hilarious predicaments. When Bean attempts to catch a train while in France, he inadvertently separates a child from his father, which leads to the father reporting to the police that a kidnapping has taken place. Further chaos ensues when Bean is cast in a commercial and he goes on to disrupt the Cannes Film Festival. Rowan Atkinson once again presents his highly physical comedic style in Mr Bean's Holiday, playing the titular character as he bumbles about France, causing laugh-filled mayhem out of the simplest of situations.
