Standing Ovation präsentiert auch Duette mit ihrem lebenslangen Idol Donny Osmond und dem „Phantom“ Michael Crawford. Das Album läutet für Susan Boyle, eine lebenslange Fanin von Musicals, eine Rückkehr in eine Ära beliebter Musik ein. Ihre Lieblingslieder aus dem goldenen Zeitalter von Film und Theater, gepaart mit ihrem herausragenden Gesang von ätherisch bis dramatisch, zeigt die Musik die Stimme, in die sich die Welt verliebt hat.
Als Susan über ihr Album sprach, sagte sie: „Seit ich ein kleines Mädchen war, bin ich ein Fan von Musicals. Ich liebe sie und habe das Drama und die Bandbreite an Emotionen genossen, die sie in dir auslösen. Ich erinnere mich noch an das erste Mal, als ich Les Mis sah , meinen absoluten Favoriten. Ich habe mich darin verliebt und habe es inzwischen unzählige Male gesehen, denn jedes Mal, wenn man es anschaut, zeichnet man etwas anderes. Die Erstellung dieses Albums war eine Freude und verlief ganz natürlich, da ich die Songs kannte und mich mit den Charakteren im Studio identifizieren konnte. Die Aufnahme zweier Songs mit Donny war ein wahrgewordener Traum. Die Zusammenarbeit mit ihm war großartig und ich habe so viel von ihm als Künstler und Mensch gelernt. Mit ihm im Studio zu sein war zweifellos der beste Tag überhaupt – es war keine Arbeit!“
Standing Ovation wurde von Biff Stannard in Glasgow und London produziert. Stannard ist ein hoch angesehener Produzent, der in der Vergangenheit unter anderem mit Kylie Minogue, U2, Westlife und One Direction zusammengearbeitet hat
