Bruford hatte Musiker gefunden, die eindeutig mit der Jazztradition vertraut waren, auch wenn sie nach Wegen suchten, sie aufzuschlüsseln und auf neue und ungewöhnliche Weise zu rekonstruieren. Auf der zweiten und besten Veröffentlichung von Earthworks sind die jungen Türken Ballamy und Bates sowie ein neuer Bassist, Tim Harries, zu sehen, der Mick Hutton ersetzt. Die Songs stammen von allen und Tony Hatch (letzterer ist eine mutierte Bearbeitung von Downtown von Bates, die es nicht in die Top 40 schaffen wird). Diese Ausgabe enthält zusätzlich zwei Bonustracks – Emotional Shirt und Pigalle –, die von den Live-Auftritten der Band stammen. Dieses Album ist seit einiger Zeit vergriffen. Diese Neuveröffentlichung erscheint auf Brufords eigenem Label Summerfold Records und wurde von ihm persönlich betreut.
