„Bow To the People“ wurde 1976 in den Arrest Studios in Washington aufgenommen und vereinte Songs aus mehreren der bekanntesten Theater West-Stücke, darunter „Bow to the People“, „The System“ und „Black Love“, und befasste sich unermüdlich mit ernsten Themen Drogenabhängigkeit, psychische Gesundheit und kulturelles Bewusstsein. „Die ganze Idee von Bow to the People bestand darin, unsere schwarzen Vorfahren zu ehren“, erklärt Dillard. „Es war wichtig, das für die Kinder zu tun, die es nicht wussten.“ Das Album „Bow to the People“, das nach der Originalaufnahme zurückgestellt wurde, erschien 1993 schließlich auf einer limitierten CD bei Black Fire.
