Das zweite Studioalbum der Scorpions, „Fly to the Rainbow“, erschien am 1. November 1974 und ist das erste von den Bandmitgliedern selbst produzierte Album. Das Album wurde kurz nach ihrer Lonesome Crow-Tour produziert, woraufhin Michael Schenker die Band verließ und durch Uli Jon Roth ersetzt wurde. Stilistisch wich „Fly to the Rainbow“ stark von ihrem Debütalbum „Lonesome Crow“ ab und bewegte sich in eine experimentellere Richtung, die allerdings schon damals starke Hardrock-Einflüsse erkennen ließ und bereits erahnen ließ, wohin die Band später gehen würde. Neben Leadsänger Klaus Meine sind auf dem Album auch die Stimmen von Rudolf Schenker („They Need a Million“) und Uli Jon Roth („Drifting Sun“) zu hören.
