Die Band wurde zwischen 2020 und 2021 in Berlin und aus der Ferne aufgenommen und bringt ihr 19. Studioalbum in voller Länge zurück. „Fire Doesn’t Grow On Trees“ ist der Beginn einer aufregenden neuen Phase für Newcombe und seine Band. Bei diesem Album waren Ricky Maymi (Gitarren), Ryan Carlson Van Kriedt (Keyboards), Hakon Adalsteinsson (Gitarre), Hallberg Daði Hallbergsson (Bass) und Uri Rennert (Schlagzeug) im Studio und aus der Ferne dabei. Die Band ist derzeit mit Mercury Rev auf einer 34-tägigen Tour durch Nordamerika, mit Festivalauftritten beim Levitation in Angers, Frankreich im Juni, beim Elevation in Graz, Österreich im Juli und bei NOX ORAE in der Schweiz im August. Die Tourneen in Europa beginnen im September 2022 und eine weitere im Februar 2023. Ursprünglich wurde Newcombe stark von der psychedelischen Phase der Rolling Stones beeinflusst – der Name stammt vom Stones-Gitarristen Brian Jones, kombiniert mit einer Anspielung auf Kultführer Jim Jones, aber seine Arbeit in der Die 2000er Jahre haben sich in ästhetische Dimensionen ausgeweitet, die dem britischen Shoegazing-Genre der 1990er Jahre ähneln und Einflüsse aus der Weltmusik, insbesondere der Musik des Nahen Ostens und Brasiliens, einbeziehen.
