Tom Williams, ehemaliger Steuermann von Tom Williams & The Boat, schrieb sein fünftes Album „All Change“ in Übungsräumen in ganz Kent, in den Pausen vom Gitarren- und Songwriting-Unterricht für Grund- und weiterführende Schulkinder. Die Texte kamen ihm auf den langen täglichen Fahrten von seinem Zuhause in Hastings in den Sinn. Und die Band? Studenten der Musiktechnik, die ihm bei einem Artist-in-Residence-Programm geholfen haben. Das kann man nicht sagen. „All Change“ ist ein mit wenigen Mitteln erstelltes Album, das wie ein Klassiker mit großem Budget klingt: ein Spiegelbild von Williams‘ lebenslanger Liebesbeziehung zum amerikanischen Rock der 1970er Jahre, das eine neue Verfeinerung seines Songwritings und einen kommerzielleren Touch zeigt – „eine Feier des großer Akkordwechsel und die emotionale Sucker-Punch-Linie“, wie er es ausdrückt. Denken Sie an Asbury Park und an Hastings – ein unerwarteter Trumpf von jemandem, der Rock'n'Roll-Träume zunichte gemacht hat. All Change ist ein Fest aus Rock- und Folk-Songs, durchzogen von Streichern, Hammond-Orgel und satten 70er-Jahre-Harmonien. Abgemischt wurde es von Ian Grimble (The Fall, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Mumford & Sons) – der „das Album in den Mittelpunkt rückte“, sagt Williams. Die zusätzliche Gitarre kommt von Niall Davey und Declan Vink und der üppige Hintergrundgesang von Iona Corrin-Chard.
