RICHARD III (Dual Format Edition) Film von Richard Loncraine Shakespeares klassisches Stück über den machiavellistischen Aufstieg zur Macht und die anschließende kurze Regierungszeit von König Richard III. von England spielt in dieser gefeierten Verfilmung in alternativen 1930er Jahren. In England ist ein brutaler Bürgerkrieg ausgebrochen, in dem die Häuser Lancaster und York um die Kontrolle über den Thron kämpfen. Inmitten des Aufruhrs plant der despotische Herzog Richard von Gloucester (Ian McKellen) seinen eigenen Weg zur Macht und schmiedet hinterhältige Pläne, die zu seiner Ernennung zum diktatorischen Monarchen führen sollen. Der von der faschistischen Ikonographie durchdrungene Film greift offen auf die Ästhetik des Dritten Reiches zurück, eine Stilwahl, die das reine Böse im Kern von Richards Agenda hervorhebt. Der Film basiert auf einer gefeierten Bühnenproduktion für das Royal National Theatre (in der auch McKellen mitspielte) und verfügt über eine Starbesetzung, zu der Sir Ian McKellen, Kristin Scott Thomas, Robert Downey Jr. und Dame Maggie Smith gehören. Besonderheiten stehen noch nicht fest. Außerdem mit Annette Bening, Jim Broadbent und Dominic West.
