Dieses Album feiert eine zwanzigjährige musikalische Verbundenheit und vor allem eine echte Freundschaft: „Wir sind wie zwei Schwestern, auf der Bühne und im Leben“, wie Patricia Kopatchinskaja und Sol Gabetta gerne sagen. Parallel zu ihrer schillernden Solokarriere trafen sie sich häufig zu Konzerten in Trio- oder Doppelkonzertbesetzung (wie dem von Francisco Coll für sie geschriebenen, kürzlich auf ALPHA580 veröffentlichten Konzert). Doch ihre neue Aufnahme haben sie für eine eher seltene Besetzung, das Violin-Cello-Duo, konzipiert – mit dem Ziel, Stücke auszuwählen, die sie entweder stilistisch oder von der Art und Weise, wie sie die Instrumente einsetzen, interessant fanden. Auf dem Programm stehen das 1914 von Zoltn Kodly geschriebene Duo, das erst 1924 uraufgeführt wurde, zwei Jahre nach Maurice Ravels Sonate für Violine und Cello, sowie einige Streifzüge in die Barockzeit (Leclair, Scarlatti, Bach) und natürlich , Werke von Komponisten des 21. Jahrhunderts, denen die beiden Solisten sehr nahestehen: Jörg Widmann, Francisco Coll und Julien-François Zbinden stehen auf der Reiseroute dieser introspektiven Reise in die großzügige Welt zweier Gesamtkünstler.
