Aber ich genieße den Nervenkitzel, Dinge zu tun, die außerhalb meiner Komfortzone liegen, deshalb habe ich in der Vergangenheit mit Künstlern zusammengearbeitet, die ich bewundere und die mich eingeladen haben, wie Monarchy und Die Antwoord“, erinnert sich der gebürtige Michiganer, dessen Mona Lisa lächelt verrät deutsche, schottische und englische Herkunft. „Aber nichts ist vergleichbar mit diesem Projekt mit Sébastien Tellier. Da ich schon lange ein Fan seiner Musik war, besuchte ich ihn regelmäßig in Kalifornien, und als ich zum ersten Mal im Crazy Horse in Paris auftrat, lud ich ihn ein, weil ich so ein Fan war und mich nicht traute Ich konnte mir vorstellen, dass er eines Tages ein ganzes Album für mich komponieren würde. Als wir mit den Aufnahmen begannen, bot er mir an, einige Texte schreiben zu dürfen, aber mir gefiel das Gefühl des Loslassens, das Aufnehmen einer Sébastien Tellier-Platte. Ich hatte die Fantasie, einen modernen Moment mit Brigitte Bardot und Serge Gainsbourg zu erleben. Das Album zu beschreiben ist schwierig; Vielleicht bin ich es mit weniger Make-up. Manchmal gibt es eine gewisse Verletzlichkeit, die im Gegensatz zu meinem Bühnenbild einer selbstbewussten und glamourösen Frau steht. Im wirklichen Leben würde ich es nie wagen, solche Dinge zu sagen, und wenn ich jemals wirklich Lust hätte, solche Liebeserklärungen abzugeben, würde ich mich wahrscheinlich sofort zurückhalten.
