Innerhalb eines Jahres nach ihrem bahnbrechenden Doppelalbum „Bad Girls“ verließ Donna Summer Casablanca Records und wurde die erste Künstlerin, die beim neuen Label Geffen Records unter Vertrag stand. Das dritte für das Label veröffentlichte Album war „Cats Without Claws“ aus dem Jahr 1984, das von Michael Omartian produziert wurde, der seine Produktionsaufgaben bei „She Works Hard For The Money“ fortsetzte, indem er dem Album ein Dance/Pop-Thema der Mitte der 80er Jahre verlieh Klang. Das Album enthält die Singles „Supernatural Love“, „There Goes My Baby“ und „Eyes“. „Katzen ohne Krallen“ erreichte in mehreren Ländern Europas die Top 30 und wurde auch in den USA und Japan zu einem Top 40-Album. Zu Michael Omartians Produktions-Credits zählen Alben mit Michael Bolton, Peter Cetera, Christopher Cross, Amy Grant, Whitney Houston, The Jackson und Rod Stewart. Zusammen mit Quincy Jones war er 1985 Co-Produzent der USA für Afrikas Nr. 1. 1 Treffer, „Wir sind die Welt“. Für den letzten Titel des Albums, „Forgive Me“, gewann Donna einen Grammy für die beste inspirierende Leistung. Diese Sonderedition ist eine Neuauflage des Originalalbums auf 180 g schwerem, durchscheinendem neonpinkfarbenem Vinyl.
