In Namiji, players are transported to a world of ancient Japan, where they take on the role of fishers navigating the waters south of the Japanese archipelago, just a few kilometers from the famous Tokaido road. The goal of the game is to have a productive day at sea, catching a variety of colorful fish and crustaceans using lines or nets, and improving your fishing equipment with stops along the way.

But the gods of the sea must also be contended with in Namiji. Players can set offerings afloat or fulfill the wishes of the gods, as expressed through the Sacred Rocks, in exchange for rewards. Gameplay in Namiji is similar to that of the popular game Tokaido, with players advancing down a linear track on the game board to take actions. The player who is currently last on the track takes a turn by moving forward to their desired action space and taking that action. Players must choose whether to advance slowly in order to get more turns, or to travel more rapidly in order to beat other players to their desired action spaces.

Namiji is suitable for 2-5 players and has a playing time of 30-45 minutes. It is recommended for ages 8 and up.
