Los Angeles independent label Minky Records is issuing\ntwo crucial, hitherto unheard slices of music recorded in the\n\x2780s by the late L.A. punk rock legend Jeffrey Lee Pierce\nand his band The Gun Club.\nOn June 12, the company will release an exclusive single\nversion of the Pierce original \x27\x27Bad Indian\x27\x27 and a cover\nof Jody Reynolds\x27 \x27\x27Fire of Love.\x27\x27 This Minky 45 will be\naccompanied by an even more impressive vault discovery:\nSoulsuckers On Parade, a full\-length 1984 Pierce solo\nrecording drawn from an abortive session for the cowpunk\ncompilation album Don\x27t Shoot, first released by Zippo\nRecords in the U.K. The vocalist is supported by an allstar\nunit comprising guitarist Dave Alvin, drummer Bill\nBateman, and the late pianist Gene Taylor, then of the hot\nL.A. roots combo The Blasters, and bassist Jack Waterson\nof Green On Red; Chris D. (Chris Desjardins, who also\nproduced the date) and The Gun Club\x27s Kid Congo Powers\nguest on background vocals.\nFeaturing covers of songs originated by Willie Nelson,\nBig Joe Turner, and Creedence Clearwater Revival, a wacky,\nprofane blues Pierce improvisation called \x27\x27New Way of\nWalkin’\x27\x27, and a rampaging, demented seventeen\-minute\noriginal, \x27\x27Walkin\x27 Down the Street (Doin\x27 My Thing)\x27\x27.
